Abstract:

A 5-year-old presented to urgent care with a 3-day history of fever with a tympanic Tmax of 102°F. Laboratory studies revealed positive results for Influenza B and negative for COVID. Physical examination revealed a left erythematous tympanic membrane with bulging and decreased motion. The patient was diagnosed with left acute otitis media and Influenza B. Acute otitis media is a common diagnosis in children with a higher incidence in preschool ages. The patient was treated pharmacologically with acetaminophen and ibuprofen as needed. The patient’s mother was taught to safely and effectively use the Galbreath technique. She did so twice a day for three days until resolution of fever and otalgia occurred. The patient’s acute otitis media cleared in three days without the use of antibiotics.
