Abstract:
This narrative review addresses integrating osteopathic principles with contemporary science to meet modern healthcare demands while preserving osteopathy's identity. Enactivism provides a framework that considers environmental, psychological, social, and existential factors, promoting patient–practitioner–environment biobehavioral synchronization. This can be enhanced through a four-step process: •narrative-based sense-making,•touch-based decision-making,•hands-on mindfulness-based osteopathic manipulative treatment, and•patient-active participatory osteopathic approaches. Together, these steps foster person-centered care, strengthen the therapeutic alliance, and offer a culturally sensitive, holistic model. Future research should assess its applicability and impact on patient outcomes across diverse populations.
