Abstract:

This essay aims to draw attention to an alarm call that has been echoing unheard around the world for decades. Statisticians sharply criticize the use of the signifi cance test and the p-value – in today‘s common form. Discussions in recent years culminated in 2016 with the publication of a statement by the American Statistical Association (ASA) and in early 2019 with the publication of an extensive special edition of “The American Statistician”. The editorial of this special edition „Moving to a World Beyond p <0.05“, as well as some other articles published in this context, are the basis of this essay, which aims to support the desired broad discussion and bring it into the German-speaking osteopathic scene.
