Abstract:

In contrast to four-legged mammals, the human foot serves as both a support and a locomotive organ. To be able to fulfil this dual function, the foot has special anatomic and biomechanical character-istics. Fat pads on the sole of the foot ensure secure ground contact, the receptors in the sole of the foot and in the muscles, tendons and ligaments explore the structure of the ground and react to pressure and vibrations, thus enabling a human to stand and to walk while keeping balance.

Anders als bei vierbeinigen Säugern ist der Fuß des Menschen Stütz-, Tast- und Fortbewegungsorgan zugleich. Um diese Mehrfachfunktion zu erfüllen, verfügt er über bestimmte anatomische und biomechanische Besonderheiten. Die fettgepolsterten Ballen der Fußsohle gewährleisten als Dreipunktauflage einen sicheren Bodenkontakt, die Rezeptoren in der Fußsohle ertasten die Beschaffenheit des Bodens, indem sie u.a. auf Druck und Vibration reagieren. Die Propriozeption aus Muskeln, Sehnen und Bändern liefert biomechanisch relevante Informationen u. a. über die räumliche Stellung des Fußes. Über diese Mechanorezetion wird es dem Menschen möglich, zu stehen und zu gehen und dabei das Gleichgewicht zu halten.
