Abstract:

Somatic dysfunction has been a concept central to osteopathic philosophy and practice for most of this century1. Hypothetical models like the facilitated segment have attempted to explain the clinical findings of somatic dysfunction. It is now time for a major reassessment of these concepts as current evidence force us to question fundamental principles behind previous explanations, and search for more plausible models.
