Abstract:

This article discusses the difficulties osteopathy faces in being understood through the lens of science. While the concept of research has been part of the discipline since its inception, its epistemological framework is still in its infancy. The authors of this article point out that the fact that it is common to refer to models from conventional medicine should not obscure the specific characteristics of osteopathy. The authors seek to incorporate this distinctiveness into the development of an epistemology specific to osteopathic science. The use of various tools from the humanities and social sciences—and in particular so-called qualitative methods—should help contribute to this process. (translated by Ostlib)
