Abstract:

For several (not least forensic) reasons, knowledge and awareness of pregnancy associated health problems seem to be poor. Many of them (eg. low back pain, nausea and vomitus, “symphysis pubis dysfunction”, intensity and duration of labour, and episiotomy/perineal rupture) are nevertheless highly prevalent and may negatively affect quality of life or represent a major health hazard. The osteopathic approach may offer a promising perspective for therapists and patients, if the osteopathic community succeeds in demonstrating therapeutic effectiveness.

Aus verschiedenen Gründen werden die gesundheitlichen Probleme Schwangerer oft nur unzureichend behandelt. Rückenschmerzen, Übelkeit/Erbrechen, Symphysenschmerz, Wehendauer/Intensität, Dammschnitt/Dammriss und andere sind gleichwohl sehr häufige Probleme, die die Lebensqualität erheblich beeinträchtigen können oder ein relevantes Risiko bedeuten. Der osteopathische Zugang könnte für Therapeuten wie Betroffene eine vielversprechende Perspektive eröffnen, wenn es gelingt, die Wirksamkeit überzeugend zu belegen.
