Abstract:

This article aims to highlight the developments in European osteopathic education since the turn of the century by discussing seven drivers of change, namely growth of the profession, government regulation, international standards, academisation, evidence-based medicine, educational research and the recent Covid19 pandemic. Then it highlights how these drivers have changed the osteopathic educational providers (OEPs) and their faculties, what is taught and how it is taught. It has been a complex development with many important and mutually influencing factors, where cause and effect relationships are often difficult to establish. While these overall trends can be observed in many European countries, the development in individual jurisdictions may deviate from what is described.

(translated by Ostlib): Dieser Artikel soll die Entwicklungen in der europäischen Osteopathieausbildung seit der Jahrtausendwende beleuchten, indem er sieben Triebkräfte des Wandels diskutiert, nämlich das Wachstum des Berufsstands, staatliche Regulierung, internationale Standards, Akademisierung, evidenzbasierte Medizin, Bildungsforschung und die jüngste Covid19-Pandemie. Anschließend wird aufgezeigt, wie diese Faktoren die Anbieter osteopathischer Ausbildung (OEPs) und ihre Fakultäten verändert haben, was gelehrt wird und wie es gelehrt wird. Es handelt sich um eine komplexe Entwicklung mit vielen wichtigen und sich gegenseitig beeinflussenden Faktoren, bei der Ursache-Wirkungs-Zusammenhänge oft schwer zu erkennen sind. Während diese allgemeinen Trends in vielen europäischen Ländern zu beobachten sind, kann die Entwicklung in einzelnen Ländern von den beschriebenen Abweichungen abweichen.
