Abstract:
Not only functional disorders of the hormonal system (such as fertility disorders), but also structural pathologies of the endocrine glands (such as AIT – autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto‘s disease) have become increasingly common in recent years. An important key role is played by the thyroid gland (Glandula thyroidea). Thus, in recent years, the thyroid gland also acquired a more important role in osteopathic consideration. Barral [2] and Camirand [6] have addressed the thyroid gland in early publications. Frühwein [9] has described the mobility and motility of the thyroid gland and introduced it into osteopathy. The 1st part of the article describes the basics of the thyroid gland: embryology, anatomy, topography, physiology, mobility/motility, and diagnosis.
