Abstract:
The holistic concept allows us to understand the mechanical adaptations produced in distinct parts of the body. Some authors have reported a direct relationship between spinal morphology and mandibular position. Some pathomechanical factors of craniomandibular etiology are related to occlusal contacts and to the tonus of the craniofacial muscles. These factors should be considered in both the assessment and treatment phases of postural therapy. Treatment of craniomandibular disorders should consider body posture relationships and be based on accurate assessment of postural biomechanics. Postural craniomandibular factors are related to the position of the head and mandible, mandibular occlusion and dynamics, and podiatric and myofascial disorders.
