Abstract:

Introduction: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) is a genetic collagen disorder that causes a typical chronic asthenic-algic syndrome. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment on chronic fatigue and pain in patients diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Methods: A randomized, controlled experimental study was conducted on 73 patients randomly assigned to two groups: the treatment group (n = 36) and the control group (n = 37). Two osteopathic consultations were conducted. Fatigue and pain were assessed using the Piper Scale and the Multidimensional Pain Inventory, respectively. Results: Among treated patients, the mean improvement was 47.1% for fatigue (p < 0.001) and 39.9% for pain (p < 0.001). Among control patients, fatigue scores did not change significantly, and pain scores increased (p = 0.004). Conclusion: This short-term benefit of osteopathic care on pain-related fatigue in SEdh needs to be confirmed by long-term studies. (translated by Ostlib)
