Abstract:

This case involves a patient seen in the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Clinic with sudden, painless onset of loss of visual field five weeks following craniotomy for meningioma removal. Homonymous hemianopsia and the epidemiology of meningioma are briefly reviewed. The patient's loss of visual field resolved completely immediately following the application of osteopathy in the cranial field. While the synchronicity may suggest that the two events are causally linked, further clinical evidence is required before such an effect can be attributed to osteopathic intervention.

(translated by Ostlib): Der vorliegende Fall betrifft einen Patienten, der in der Klinik für Osteopathische Manipulationsmedizin (OMM) vorstellig wurde und bei dem fünf Wochen nach einer Kraniotomie zur Entfernung eines Meningeoms plötzlich und schmerzfrei ein Gesichtsfeldausfall auftrat. Die homonyme Hemianopsie und die Epidemiologie des Meningeoms werden kurz beleuchtet. Der Gesichtsfeldausfall des Patienten klang unmittelbar nach der Anwendung osteopathischer Maßnahmen im kranialen Bereich vollständig ab. Auch wenn die zeitliche Übereinstimmung darauf hindeuten könnte, dass die beiden Ereignisse in einem kausalen Zusammenhang stehen, sind weitere klinische Belege erforderlich, bevor ein solcher Effekt der osteopathischen Intervention zugeschrieben werden kann.
