Abstract:

The wrist, or carpus, consists of a framework of small, more or less cube-shaped skeletal elements, flexibly connected to each other by a highly differentiated ligamentous system. The proximal row of carpal bones and the ulnocarpal compartment form an important connecting link, situated between the two forearm bones and the distal carpal bones. The proximal row of carpal bones is responsible for all the movements between forearm and the distal row and, thanks to its variable geometry, it can also adapt to appropriate biomechanical and kinematic demands made on it by the transferral of strength.

Die Handwurzel besteht aus einem Gefüge von kleinen, mehr oder weniger würfelförmigen Skelettelementen, die untereinander durch ein sehr differenziertes Bandsystem gelenkig verbunden sind. So bildet die proximale Handwurzelreihe zusammen mit dem ulnokarpalen Kompartiment ein bedeutsames Verbindungsglied, das zwischen den beiden Unterarmknochen und der distalen Handwurzelreihe eingefügt ist. Die proximale Reihe der Handwurzelknochen ermöglicht sämtliche Bewegungen zwischen Unterarm und der distalen Reihe und kann sich darüber hinaus mit ihrer variablen Geometrie den jeweiligen biomechanischen und kinematischen Anforderungen bei der Kraftübertragung anpassen.
