Abstract:

Although not being defined as a main diagnosis in the ICD-Catalogue the burnout syndrome together with the related depressive disorders is a frequent cause for physical and psychological disturbances. It is mostly caused by hyper-stress. Major symptoms are fatigue, sleeping disorders, reduced ability to concentrate, increased testiness and social withdrawal. Neck pain, back pain and unspecific pain might lead patients to osteopathic treatment. When identified at an early stage and treated psychotherapeutically and where necessary with additional antidepressive medication, progress can be stopped and recovery can be accelerated

Das Burnout-Syndrom ist weit verbreitet. Obschon im ICD-Katalog keine eigenständige medizinische Hauptdiagnose, ist es mit den ihm verwandten depressiven Erkrankungen eine oft unerkannte Ursache für körperliche und psychische Störungen. Zugrunde liegt meist eine Hyperstresserkrankung. Hauptsymptome sind Müdigkeit, Schlafstörungen, Konzentrationsprobleme, zunehmende Reizbarkeit und sozialer Rückzug. Häufig führen Nacken-, Rücken- und unspezifische Schmerzen die Patienten zum Osteopathen. Wird ein Burnout in der frühen Phase erkannt, kann der Verlauf durch psychotherapeutische und ggf. auch medikamentöse antidepressive Therapie aufgehalten oder abgekürzt werden.
