Abstract:
In a study about idiopathic scoliosis we hear about the fascial system and the linkages with certain important areas of the human body in context with idiopathic scoliosis. And we learn about the comparison of three different therapy approaches. For purposes of methodology seven female patients aged 11 – 15 who have a Cobb angle of 2° - 30° are studied. These seven patients receive osteopathic treatment. Another group of seven patients receive physiotherapy. The last group of seven patients receives no treatment whatever but they see their orthopaedist once every six or nine months for a check-up. In order to verify results the osteopath used an additional two clinical measuring methods. The first one is the sidebending test by Waddell which tells the osteopath the extent of sidebending before and after the treatment. The second method is the forward bend test by means of the Universal Caliper CMS which enables the osteopath to measure the height of the rib or lumbar hump. Statistical evaluation shows how general osteopathic treatment affects the idiopathic spine positively. The discussion is meant to offer new ideas, new ways of thinking and to show anatomical, biochemical and embryological links to the clinical symptoms of idiopathic scoliosis.
