Abstract:
Sacral somatic dysfunctions have been implicated in both acute and chronic back pain. This paper describes a novel adaptation of Muscle Energy Technique (MET) performed in a prone position, allowing direct engagement of barriers associated with oblique sacral dysfunction. It is based on sacral diagnosis using components of both the Mitchell model of sacral mechanics, which considers lumbar spine position and sacral base position, and the Strachan model of sacral diagnosis, which considers pelvic position relative to the sacral base. This streamlined approach offers improved comfort, efficiency, and potential clinical benefits in osteopathic manipulative treatment.
