Abstract:

The authors have experienced a dramatic increase in the number of complaints of back and upper leg pain in competitive figure skaters. These injuries appear to be due to repetitive overuse patterns and resultant overdeveloped muscle groups. This paper explains the neurologic and musculoskeletal causes of these injuries and proposes changes in equipment and exercise regimens to reduce the number of these overuse injuries.
