Abstract:

Although all its various forms are identifiable by a cleft spinal process, spina bifida is primarily a defect of the spinal cord and its protective coverings. Only a proportion of cases can be explained by the failed closure of the posterior neuroporus. In other cases, various developmental processes may be affected, e.g. secondary neurulation. Despite some significant isolated results, an overall concept of causal analysis does not yet exist. This article gives an overview of preventive and diagnostic possibilities, as well as symptoms.

In allen Varianten wird eine Spina bifida zwar an gespaltenen Dornfortsätzen erkennbar, ist aber primär ein Defekt des Rückenmarks und seiner Häute. Nur ein Teil der Fälle lässt sich durch ausbleibenden Schluss des hinteren Neuroporus erklären, bei anderen sind weitere Entwicklungsprozesse gestört, z.B. die sekundäre Neurulation. Die Kausalanalyse kann trotz bedeutender Einzelergebnisse noch kein Gesamtkonzept vorlegen. Möglichkeiten der Prävention und Diagnostik werden ebenso dargestellt wie die Symptomatik.
