Abstract:
Background: Dr. Gordon Zink developed a treatment model aimed at influencing the four diaphragms of the human body. These sections—cranio-cervical, cervico-thoracic, thoraco-lumbar, and lumbo-sacral segment the body through fasciae. The Zink model utilizes rotational tests in a supine position to examine and potentially provide osteopathic treatment for these areas. Method: 47 individuals experiencing discomfort in the neck, chest, and lumbar regions were examined by two osteopaths using the Zink model. The reliability of the examination was assessed through an inter-rater study. Testing was conducted in a supine position, with osteopaths examining the upper cervical spine, shoulder girdle, thoraco-lumbar transition around the diaphragm, and pelvic region. Rotational movements were performed, and the final resistance in both directions was evaluated. Results and Conclusion: The evaluation revealed minimal agreement (Kappa score ~0.09) in the overall pattern and for individual diaphragms. Particularly at the cranio-cervical and cervico-thoracic transitions, inadequate consistency was observed. The testing did not yield reliably reproducible outcomes concerning the tension status of the diaphragms.
