Abstract:

The German history of osteopathy is a marginal phenomenon in the literature. Even in the current German-language osteopathic literature, the national historical development ekes out an existence as a short section. In the research carried out, by means of literature analysis and interviews, it is shown that the first osteopaths began to practise in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. The medical profession became more intensively involved with manual medicine at the beginning of the 1960s. In the mid-80s of the last century, osteopathy began to spread in a targeted manner, starting in the Benelux countries, with various training opportunities.

Die deutsche Geschichte der Osteopathie bildet eine Randerscheinung in der Literatur. Selbst in der aktuellen deutschsprachigen Osteopathieliteratur fristet die nationale geschichtliche Entwicklung ein Dasein als kurzer Abschnitt. In der durchgeführten Recherche mittels Literaturanalyse und Befragungen zeigt sich, dass Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts erste Osteopath*innen in Deutschland zu praktizieren begannen. Die Ärzteschaft setzte sich zu Beginn der 1960er-Jahre intensiver mit der Manualmedizin auseinander. Mitte der 80er-Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts begann dann ausgehend von den Beneluxstaaten eine gezielte Verbreitung der Osteopathie mit verschiedenen Ausbildungsmöglichkeiten.
