Abstract:

The Osteopathic medicine uses a salutogenic approach and is based on defined principles of philosophical background. Especially in Germany osteopathy is very heterogeneous. Even someone who is very familiar with osteopathy and experienced in this field will find the market vast and almost unclear these days. Osteopathy cannot be reduced to only a few «Osteopathic techniques». However, many of these techniques are so effective - if applied properly - that they have already been included in the training curricula of manual medical schools. Osteopathy is to be used complementarily and not alternatively. It is ideal to combine it with traditional orthodox medicine. It will not be possible to integrate osteopathy into manual medicine, since it would be necessary to integrate manual medicine into osteopathy - if at all - and not vice versa. A more intensive and closer Cooperation between paediatricians and researchers working in the paediatric branch of medical science would be very desirable. A conflict between these two parties should be avoided for the sake of our young patients and their benefit.

Die osteopathische Medizin verfolgt einen salutogenetischen Ansatz und fußt auf definierten Prinzipien, die auf philosophischen Grundgedanken basieren. Besonders in Deutschland ist die Osteopathie sehr heterogen. Der Markt ist selbst für einen in der Osteopathie Erfahrenen schier unüberschaubar geworden. Die Osteopathie lässt sich nicht auf einige »osteopathische Techniken« reduzieren, obwohl viele Techniken, richtig angewendet, so wirksam sind, dass sie von manualmedizinischen Schulen in deren Ausbildungscurricula übernommen wurden. Die Osteopathie ist komplementär, nicht alternativ anzuwenden. Ideal ist die Kombination mit der klassischen Schulmedizin. Eine Eingliederung der Osteopathie in die manuelle Medizin wird nicht gelingen, da (wenn überhaupt) die manuelle Medizin in die Osteopathie integriert werden müsste und nicht umgekehrt. Eine intensivere Zusammenarbeit mit Pädiatern und pädiatrisch Forschenden wäre zum Wohle unserer kleinen Patienten sehr wünschenswert.
