Abstract:

The rhythmically modulated activity of smooth musculature is actually a passive process. The individual spindle-shaped muscle cells together form a syncytium, which leads to uniform movement. The intrinsic membrane proteins of the layered cells act as a type of connecting tunnel. Passive calcium introduction initiates contractions, which are stopped by the ATPases which use ATP. The article describes the many discoveries which have been made concerning the intrinsic rhythm of blood vessels.

Die rhythmisch modulierte Aktivität glatter Muskulatur ist in Wirklichkeit passiv. Ihre spindelförmigen Einzelzellen bilden gemeinsam ein Synzytium, was zu einer Einheitlichkeit der Bewegung führt. Als verbindende Konnexone wirken die intrinsischen Membranproteine der aneinander liegenden Zellen. Passiver Kalzium-Einstrom löst die Kontraktionen aus, die durch die Wirkung von ATP-verbrauchenden ATPasen beendet wird. Der Artikel beschreibt die zahlreichen Entdeckungen rund um die Eigenrhythmizität der Blutgefäße.
