Abstract:

The jaw is an extremely complex structure, from an anatomical as well from a physiological aspect. This article describes the developmental history of the jaw and its integration into the orofacial and postcranial system. Further chapters deal with innervation, anatomy and kinematics. The article concludes with a biomechanical overview.

Das Kiefergelenk erweist sich als eine anatomisch und physiologisch äußerst komplexe Struktur. Der Artikel beschreibt die entwicklungsgeschichtliche Entstehung dieses Gelenks und dessen Integration in das orofaziale und postkranielle System. Weitere Abschnitte erläutern Innervation, Anatomie und Kinematik. Eine biomechanische Betrachtung schließt den Artikel ab.
