Abstract:
To understand how osteopathic treatment of anxiety works and to propose a therapeutic trial protocol, it was first necessary to identify the neurological network of the emotional brain involved in fear and the complex process that leads to anxiety. We can thus see the value of providing empathetic care for the patient and treating their chronic pain to inhibit the stimuli that trigger fear and anxiety reactions. Treating the unintegrated primitive Moro reflex and fear-induced paralysis would allow us to address both the somatic reaction and the encoding in the amygdala, the primary subcortical structure that generates the feeling of fear. Osteopathy is believed to be effective, through visceral and craniosacral techniques, in addressing the autonomic nervous system and hormonal reactions triggered by anxiety. Osteopathic treatment of the face is thought to have an effect on bruxism and facial expressions that trigger facial feedback. A randomized controlled trial is currently underway to evaluate the impact of osteopathic care on patients with anxiety disorders. (translated by Ostlib)
