Abstract:

Osteopathy comprises a wide range of concepts and techniques. At the same time, clinical observations and contemporary research suggest that treatment outcomes cannot be explained solely by individual methods but are influenced by the interaction of structural, regulatory, interpersonal, and contextual factors. This article introduces FORMEN as a heuristic framework for describing recurring clinical observations and relating them to established scientific concepts. The framework addresses form and function, orientation and meaning, regulation, interpersonal interaction, experience, and sustainability. Relevant perspectives include interoception and embodiment, active inference and predictive processing, autonomic and interpersonal co-regulation, and mechanobiological approaches. In addition, the concept of therapeutic entry points is discussed. FORMEN is proposed as a framework for structuring and organizing recurring clinical observations.
