Abstract:

Objective: Investigation about the origin of the biodynamic thinking and the set up of an overview about the development of the biodynamic thinking within Osteopathy. Study design: Basic research. Primary sources: Original literature of A.T. Still; the collected and edited lectures and articles of Sutherland and Becker; translations of E. Swedenborg’s literature. Method: Collected overview about certain texts of A.T. Still’s literature, of Sutherland’s most significant steps within his development of his Cranial Concept towards Biodynamics and of R.E. Becker’s further development in his orientation towards practical use. The most significant statements of the three authors are pointing out the development of the biodynamic thinking and ways for the practice. Results: In this work could be shown, that without question the origin of the biodynamic thinking can be found in the literature of A. T. Still but on the other hand an earlier root of this thinking is also recognizable in the literature of Emanuel Swedenborg, a Swedish universal scientist of the 18th century. Conclusions: The Osteopathy which A.T. Still brought into life is a wide field and cannot be reduced to one method. As the literature of A.T. Still has shown, it has included the life-force in action as an important aspect inside the osteopathic philosophy and practice. In this work could be shown, that the Biodynamics, which has taken this aspect out of Still’s Osteopathic Philosophy and has prescribed how in the practice the life-force can be accessed and how one can work with it, that the Biodynamics should have its fix place inside the field of Osteopathy.

Studienziel: Die Erforschung der Ursprünge des Biodynamischen Gedankengutes und die Erstellung eines Überblickes über die Entwicklung des Biodynamischen Denkens innerhalb der Osteopathie. Studiendesign: Eine historische Literaturübersicht, in dem ein geschichtlicher Überblick von A.T. Still über W.G. Sutherland bis hin zu R.E. Becker erstellt wurde. Primäre Quellen: Originalliteratur von A.T. Still, editierte gesammelte Schriften von Vorträgen und Artikeln von W.G. Sutherland und von Rollin E. Becker. Deutsche und englische Übersetzungen aus dem Lateinischen und schwedischen von E. Swedenborg’s Literatur. Methode: Erstellen eines zusammenfassenden Überblickes über ausgewählte Stellen aus A.T. Still’s Literatur, den für die Biodynamische Arbeit wichtigsten Schritte von Sutherland’s Entwicklung des Cranialen Konzeptes und R.E. Becker’s Weiterentwicklung in der Umsetzung für die Praxis. Dabei wurden wichtige Aussagen der drei Autoren herausgearbeitet, die die Entwicklung der Biodynamischen Denk- und Arbeitsweise verdeutlichen. Ergebnisse: In dieser Arbeit konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Ursprünge der Biodynamik eindeutig in den Aussagen von A.T. Still zu erkennen sind, aber auch einen noch früheren Ursprung bei Emanuel Swedenborg, einem Schwedischen Universalgelehrten des 18.JH. erkennen lassen. Schlussfolgerung: Die Osteopathie, die A.T. Still ins Leben gerufen hat, entspricht einem weiten Feld und kann nicht auf eine Methode reduziert werden. Wie die Literatur von A.T. Still gezeigt hat, hat sie auch die Lebenskraft (in Tätigkeit) als wesentlichen Bestandteil in der osteopathischen Philosophie und Praxis integriert. In dieser Arbeit konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Biodynamik, die diesen  Aspekt aus Still’s Osteopathie aufgegriffen und einen Zugang beschrieben hat, wie mit dieser Lebenskraft gearbeitet werden kann, dass ihr einen festen Platz innerhalb der Osteopathie zugesprochen werden sollte.
