Abstract:

Ida Rolf's method is based on the observation that every human body possesses its own individual form. The concept of Structural Integration differentiates between two levels of form: one is its deeper and constant aspect called structure, the other the visible and vastly varying form living human bodies present. Movement is defined as a functional change superimposed on the underlying structural form. The arm is used as an example to indicate some of the viewpoints which are relevant to manual treatment if the focus is on form.
